Industrial Grade Floor Installation in Mississauga:
October CPD® Project of the Month
When building a large facility, you have to take industrial grade floor installation seriously. Not only do you want a floor that looks great over the long term, you’ll want durability against cracks, chips, or breaks that can cause safety issues.
BMW Group Canada, who already owns and operates hundreds of industrial facilities around the world, recognized this need for quality flooring. So, when they were planning a new distribution centre in Mississauga, Ontario, they hired a flooring contractor who not only had the necessary skills and experience, but also knew they could come to us for the right product recommendations that would help get the job done.
Project: Industrial Grade Floor Installation
Planned for launch during the summer of 2018, BMW’s proposed 285,000 sq. ft. facility will be 50% larger than their current distribution centre in Whitby, Ontario, and employ between 50 and 60 staff. Located on Argentia Road and Ninth Line in Mississauga, its proximity to the airport, railway, and major highways will also improve delivery efficiency.
The regional distribution centre will service BMW’s retailer network with original equipment, replacement parts, and vehicle accessories for BMW cars and sport utility vehicles, Mini cars, and Motorrad motorcycles.
There will be immediate demand on the distribution centre to fulfill dealer needs, which will result in significant traffic and wear on the facility’s floor. Clearly, quality and durability was an important factor, and played a role when looking for the right flooring contractor.
Contractor: United Floor Co Ltd.
A project of this magnitude required a contractor with a reputation for installing large-scale, industrial grade floors that retain beauty and functionality over the long term. Because of their reputation for high-quality work and excellent customer service, United Floor Ltd., located in Woodbridge, Ontario was awarded the job.
Since 1964, United Floor has specialized in the design build of concrete floors, for food facilities, commercial and industrial buildings, and large distribution centres across Canada. Their expertise and skill set provided a perfect fit to fulfill BMW’s particular requirements.
However, before they could begin installation, United Floor needed to secure the top quality products they needed to ensure the best results possible. For that, they turned to CPD® Construction Products.
CPD Construction Products Used
Our team listened carefully to the project details, and produced two product recommendations that would meet the exact design specifications while providing long-lasting durability under significant traffic:
CPD® Floor Hardener Pre-Mix (Premium)
There were several benefits to using CPD Floor Hardener Pre-Mix (Premium) for this project: it’s premixed and ready to use, offers superior strength, has good abrasive resistance, is non-rusting, and resists impact and loading. In short, it fulfilled everything the contractor needed to deliver a high strength, hardwearing result.
This hardener is perfect for interior industrial and commercial applications such as processing plants, water and recycling plants, warehouses, distribution facilities, and any area exposed to abrasive and light to medium traffic.
Cipadeck® FlexFoam Expansion Joint Filler
Cipadeck FlexFoam Expansion Joint Filler is a lightweight, polyethylene, closed-cell expansion joint filler that can be used for both interior and exterior projects. This flexible foam is ideal to use where expansion and contraction movements must be accommodated.
Its wide variety of applications includes swimming pool decks, driveways, and floor slabs. It can also be used effectively in other commercial settings such as highways, airport runways, industrial flooring, or curb and gutter work.
Project Outcome
After installing the new industrial grade floor, the contractor presented the finished product to the client. BMW was impressed with result, which was delivered to exact specification and within the timeline needed to meet their launch in the summer of 2018.
