Rail Bridge Construction
Dixie Road, Mississauga: May’s CPD Project of the Month
In Canada, our infrastructure is exposed to weather extremities such as high humidity, hard rain, and freezing temperatures. That’s why our bridges, tunnels, and trestles have to be not just resilient but also built to last.
Train bridges have to be particularly strong for the safety of the community and to maintain rail traffic flow. When the City of Mississauga required a rail bridge construction job on Dixie Road, one of the area’s busiest arterial streets, it had to be done with minimal disruption to the area’s businesses, residents, and commuters, using parts and equipment that will give decades of reliability.
Project: Bridge & Retaining Wall Rehab – Dixie Road, Mississauga
This rail bridge construction project had many facets. For example, temporary trestles were required in order to maintain rail traffic during construction, along with a substructure underneath to keep the project on track.
The job also required the reconstruction and new installation of new curbs and gutters, sidewalks, electrical infrastructure, and landscaping for a one kilometer stretch along Dixie Road.

CPD Construction Products Used
Based on the contractor’s needs, we recommended they use two concrete sealers that will not only protect the concrete from wear due to inclement weather, but will also maintain a relatively fresh look over time.
CIPADAM S-15 is an excellent sealer for parking garages, building envelopes, and other concrete and masonry structures. It’s a clear, penetrating, breathable product that chemically reacts with the concrete substrate and most masonry surfaces to produce a long lasting water repellent effect. It provides the structure with maximum protection from moisture, no change in surface appearance, and excellent resistance to chloride ion ingress.
For vertical concrete structures, we recommended #920 Concrete Sealer Metro Grey. This sealer protects against penetration of moisture, deicing salts, oil, grease, and dirt while preventing exterior exposure from yellowing over time.
