- Project: SEC (Southeast Collector) Trunk Sewer
- Contractor: Strabag Inc.
- Product: CPD Fastcrete HS
- Details: The SEC (Southeast Collector) Trunk Sewer was constructed using state-of-the-art earth pressure balance tunnel boring machines. It is a 15-kilometre tunnel constructed in York and Durham Regions. This technology enables the tunnel boring machine (TBM) to operate below the water table without the need for dewatering. The 3.6 m diameter TBMs drill through the soil to excavate the tunnel. As the soil is excavated, pre-cast concrete segments were assembled within the TBM forming a circular tunnel liner as the TBM moves forward. CPD Fastcrete HS was used to repair the pre-cast concrete segments while being assembled. It is the first sewer project in Ontario to undergo the rigorous scrutiny of an Individual Environmental Assessment and is a critical part of the York Durham Sewage System.
